  5.      Chicago, April 6, 1992 -- Stac Electronics announced today
  6.  
  7. at COMDEX/Spring '92 that a new version of its award-winning data
  8.  
  9. compression software is being designed for OS/2* 2.0, IBM's 32-
  10.  
  11. bit operating system for 386SX PCs and above.
  12.  
  13.      Stacker for OS/2 will allow users to start their systems
  14.  
  15. with OS/2 or DOS and access their existing Stacker drives without
  16.  
  17. any modification while running either operating system.  It will
  18.  
  19. also be 100% compatible with Stac's line of coprocessor boards
  20.  
  21. for maximum speed and compression ratios.
  22.  
  23.      The OS/2 version of Stacker, like the entire Stacker line of
  24.  
  25. data compression software and coprocessor boards, doubles a
  26.  
  27. computer's storage capacity with the Stacker LZSTM technology,
  28.  
  29. which is instantaneous, continuous, and totally transparent to
  30.  
  31. the user.

  33.      "Stac has received strong demand from its installed base for
  34.  
  35. an OS/2 version of Stacker," said Gary Clow, Stac's president.
  36.  
  37. "We have been quietly engaged in developing Stacker for OS/2 for
  38.  
  39. more than a year now, and this summer we will supply a beta
  40.  
  41. release to the 300,000 OS/2 2.0 beta testers."
  42.  
  43.      Clow said Stacker for OS/2 will be available later this year
  44.  
  45. through Stac OEMs, the company's existing retail channels or
  46.  
  47. ordered directly from Stac by calling (800) 522-7822.  All
  48.  
  49. Stacker products come with free technical support.

  51.      Stacker OS/2 will join the Stacker line of products that now
  52.  
  53. includes Stacker 2.0 software for laptop, notebook and portable
  54.  
  55. computers, and Stacker AT/16 and Stacker MC/16 compression
  56.  
  57. coprocessor boards for desktop systems.

  59.      OS/2 2.0 offers true multitasking and will provide the
  60.  
  61. broadest selections of applications in the industry, running DOS,
  62.  
  63. Windows and 16- and 32-bit OS/2 applications unchanged, according
  64.  
  65. to IBM.
